LIMINAL SPACE

The vision for this collection of canvas scrolls came to me in that hazy, liminal time between sleeping and waking, almost like a dream. The notion of liminal can be described as poised at a threshold, or in a transitional stage, where you are both where you were and where you are going. I also feel myself to be in a liminal state, processing my life since my mother’s passing in the summer of last year. The act of creating was a balm throughout her decline, and often claimed with a vengeance. Now, I seek an ease and freedom of expression that is slowly arriving. I welcomed the vision for these long, slender scrolls because they offered their own set of constraints and creative challenges, nurturing my practice, nudging me along my path.

Each scroll is 8” wide and 63” deep. They are made of monoprint collage and acrylic ink on canvas sheet.
